State Highways

State Highways refers to the number of highways laid and maintained by the state government. Similar to NHDP for National Highways, State Highways Development Programmes were considered critical for accelerating the growth of the states. National Highways Authority of India or the central government is not involved in any of the processes of State Highways.

State Highways are the nodal connectors that link important cities, towns, and district headquarters across the state and also connecting them with other national/state highways of the neighboring states. The total length of state highways at present is 1.76 Lacs Kms. There are 185 State Highways projects with the estimated cost of Rs.1 Lac Crores being under development under PPP model. Out of which 62 projects with the estimated cost of Rs.56,406 Crores is under implementation at various states.
